Polka dot … what to wear this weekend

Polka dot … what’s the scoop?

I don’t know about you, but my June weekends are jam-packed with lunches and soirees with friends and fam in the sunshine which require a little more sartorial elegance than my old denim cut-offs. It’s time to snag something with a summery air which nails a spring trend and works in the dressing up stakes. So, say hello to polka dot – a tad less preppy than seersucker for the warmer months, but definitely a print with a little zing in its step.

For this upcoming season, polka dot works really well in monochrome (a two for the price of one in the trend stakes right there) but also looks cute in blush and navy hues – check out some of the polka dot finds at the Matches Fashion sale here.

Polka dot dress … how to wear it.

Whilst pootling through the Matches Fashion sale my beady little fashionista eye fell upon this cute polka dot Sophie Hulme dress. With its shirt dress vibe it’s perfect for a summer occasion that’s not too formal.

When opting for polka dot, be mindful of the size of the print you buy. Like any print, if you’re a little on the diminutive side anything oversized will swamp you – look for small scale prints to suit your proportions. If you’re more on the Amazonian scale, go large with your print size as you can definitely carry it off.

I’ve paired the dress with this Vince jacket and pink Warehouse crop cardi for a feminine look. Also loving these Acne Studios blush suede ankle boots.

For accessories I’ve thrown in a Toga Pulla bracelet, fab The Row sunnies (I’ve got the ivory and black version and get complimented on them every time I wear them). Finally I love this Lizzie Fortunato palm tree clutch which gives a nod to the pineapple print micro trend which is bubbling around right now.
