Statement sleeves

Statement sleeves… trends to try

statement sleeves

Statement sleeves are having a bit of a moment this summer. Partly thanks to the booming off the shoulder tops trend which allows for all manner of billowing sleeves to be incorporated in a beautiful boho stylie, but also thanks to designers getting a little more playful with their long sleeves for next season… which is a great to know if you want to elongate the lifecycle of this fun trend.

I snapped up this pinstripe shirt complete with statement sleeves by Blumarine from one of the fab trunk shows at Moda Operandi... if you haven’t checked these guys out and you’re a bit of a fashion addict then they are definitely worth a look. With new trunk shows weekly you can snag next season’s looks ahead of the pack, and what’s even more genius, is that you pay half now and half when the item is ready to ship… which means everything suddenly feels slightly more affordable… huzzah!

As usual, my top-tucking antics continue unabated. This shirt is super oversized so could work equally well as a dress, but with a little shirt-tucking styling trickery it’s also perfect for poolside with my fave denim cut-offs by J.Crew…seriously I replenish these in blue and white each season and they see me through virtually the whole summer as my warm weather uniform. The bag is by Edit58 and perfect for chucking in all your beachy essentials.

Statement sleeves… where to shop

Statement sleeves are indeed what the term suggests… a bit of a statement, so when styling yours pair with something completely neutral and super simple – the less voluminous the better – denims, cigarette leg pants, pencil skirt to ensure there isn’t too much overkill. Look for ruffles, embroidery, bell and cape sleeves or sheer detailing to nail the summer trends. But come the new season scope out oversized cuffs at Celine, puff sleeves at Prada or sculpted sleeves at Burberry. But keep in mind that all these looks will filter down from high-end designer to the more affordable high street by the time September rolls around.
