Tuesday’s Trends…Navy blue is the new black

If like me you’re not a big fan of doing black (again) this Fall, you can breathe a sigh of relief as there’s another contender warming up in the starting gate. For the pastier skinned amongst us, me included, navy is the way to go for your dark neutral autumn wardrobe option.

I’ve always had a bit of a thing about navy. Back in the day when I was busy stealing clothes out of my sisters closet whilst she was away in college, navy blue was always the hue my magpie eye was drawn to. Being 6 years older than me she had more of a mature take on a trend, and it was always the navy blue blouse or sweater I would purloin, hoping that it would pass me off as a more mature version of myself – always a plus when you are trying to get into a club age only 16 but trying to look 21, and lucky if you scrape 5’3″ in vertiginous heels.

If you pay attention, navy blue is beginning to land in stores in the pre fall deliveries in all manner of pieces. Smart shift dresses for work, shearling detail sweaters for play, and even the most divine fur trimmed rider jackets can be found in this flattering colourway. Personally I’ve got my eye on a cute ponyskin navy blue bag from Whistles…but clearly if that makes it’s way into my closet I’ll need to invest in some other accoutrements in the same shade to be bang on trend…now where did I put that credit card…?
