The Summer Basket Edit.

The Summer Basket Edit you need this season.

So, I’ve heard via the grapevine that Spring may be making a (somewhat fleeting) appearance this weekend. So I thought this might be the perfect time to have a quick squizz at all the lovely new season summer basket offerings out there which I will no doubt be buying up and hoarding by this time next month.

If you’ve been following the old Notes From a Stylist blog for a while, you may have noticed I have a thing for summer baskets… but let’s not tell hubs about that one – what goes on tour stays on tour right…? So just to keep you on point for the new season, I thought I’d bring you a quick summer basket edit to see you through in style.

Summer baskets, (in my book anyway), tend to range between the good old straw shopper which will have you insouciantly trotting through the streets of your hometown as if you are visiting a Brocante sale in Provence; through to the slightly less practical arm-candy meets summer-fun clutch or mini basket which you can find in more of the high end online stores. Then there’s the addition of a bamboo bag or two –  they’re cute so let’s not constrain our feelings on this and allow them to join in. And that’s even before we’ve considered what we should be feeling about adornments, shapes and straps. If you’re going for a big practical one, this season there are tons with an additional shoulder strap which is way more practical than last years load which were predominantly top handled totes.

In my life, there’s always room for a couple of these cuties each summer. I tend to opt for one big practical one – hello annual Rae Feather purchase. Then follow up with a whimsical smaller version for vacation dinners out – you can’t go wrong with a Nannacay bag for that, and then if there’s any money left in the penny jar on the shelf in the kitchen, a crossbody cutie for good measure – see Sophie Anderson or Urban Outfitters.

Summer basket edit… where to shop.

This season you want to be looking out for the inevitable pom pom, slogans and stripes onslaughts – let’s face it if it ain’t broke… there are even some with all three on so you will hit on-trend paydirt with them. Then look for fringing, quirky basket shapes and think Dorothy in Wizard of Oz for the ultimate SS18 basket vibe. You can snap one of these babies up anywhere from high end to high street, and don’t go ignoring the fathoms of loveliness that can be found on Etsy these days with sensible price points and unique designs.
